When we think of the states, one thinks of a melting pot, a smorgasbord of people from all walks of life and from all points around the world. If you were to ask any angler where the melting-pot of the sea is at, then only one place will come to their mind. One body of water that is known as the Gulf of Mexico! It is the warm year round waters that are fed by the infamous Gulf Stream, the same underwater current that creates and gives a highway to the numerous hurricanes that plague the area that feeds the area with an abundance of various fish that is unrivalled.
There are so many varieties of fish in the area, and come spawning time, that number only increases. The floor of the Gulf of Mexico is hard and flat with only a slight slope away from the costal lands and the Florida Keys. It is here in the keys that one will find the most abundance of species.
Many fishermen make their way to the Gulf Coast not only for recreation, but to get in on the ever expanding fishing industry in the area. To a true angler, nothing is better than having more choice of fish dinners than any other place in the country. From the heavily legislated Grouper, to the snapper and the kingfish, Florida has it all. But it does not just stop with the saltwater; it goes inland for even more delectable goodies.
Have you ever wanted to try Alligator? Well you can, the texture is just like chicken but greasier. Even the inland waters and rivers have an over abundance of fish. Let’s not forget the crustaceans, there is nothing like a good and fresh clam chowder made from hand collected clams near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge that covers the expanse from St. Petersburg to Sarasota. Another popular Gulf of Mexico treat is its shrimp.
No matter how you look at it, almost year round, you can always catch something good in the Gulf of Mexico.
